Mavi Dive Centre is found onsite at the Alam Anda Ocean Front Resort & Spa, conveniently located beside the resort’s wonderful house reef, that offers huge rewards for both snorkellers and divers. Boat diving is also available. Mavi Dive Centre is SSI, CMAS and PADI affiliated and offers a full range of courses from beginner to Divemaster.
The house reef can be dived from three entry points (bottle service) and extends the total width of the hotel grounds. It is a designated conservation area, the first of its kind in Bali. The local government agreed to this trial, meaning local fishermen are banned from fishing in the area. Since then, the underwater world is thriving!
A shallow diving area begins at 6 metres from the shore and stretches to 50 metres. If the sea is calm, this area is great for snorkellers and freedivers. The pristine reef consists of alternating standing coral blocks, small drop-offs, coral plateaus, and closed reef slopes, covered with countless soft and hard corals, gorgonians and sponges. In between, there are sandy areas that invite you to linger, ideal for macro photographers and beginners.
The bottom of the house reef drops away at 45° to greater depths. The reef’s topography offers protection from most currents, creating an amazing contrast between the white sand and assorted colours of soft and hard corals, sponges, and sea fans. Strong currents are rare, and water temperatures normally stay between 27 and 29°C all year round.
Divers can see tropical reef fish such as blue-spotted stingrays, leaf fish, morays, and sometimes sea turtles and eagle rays, with Spanish Dancers on night dives. The house reef is truly a heavenly place for divers, snorkellers, and underwater photographers.
Daily boat dives take guests to a wide variety of sites including Tulamben, one of Bali’s most famous diving areas, home to the Liberty wreck. This shipwreck is one of the most easily dived wrecks in the world, located just 25 metres from the shore, and resting between 5–30 metres deep. This enchanting wreck site is accessible to all diver levels, snorkellers and freedivers.
Dive centre staff load everyone’s equipment on the dive boats before departing. And once you return from diving, the staff will take all equipment back to the dive centre for rinsing and storing.
The majority of Bali’s top dive sites are within easy reach of Alam Anda by boat, and a variety of exciting dive sites can be reached within 20 minutes to an hour boat ride. Slightly further away, dive sites including Nusa Menjangan and Secret Bay in the northwest of Bali are 2.5 to 3.5 hours boat ride away. The southeastern dive spots around Padangbai and Nusa Penida can be reached in just over 2 hours.
The dive centre has a good stock of rental equipment and ample storage space for all guests, with spacious areas for rinsing and hanging equipment. Boats carry oxygen, mobile phones and emergency kits should they be required. A diving doctor is based in the capital Denpasar, where you can also find the island’s decompression chamber.
