RAJA AMPAT DIVE RESORTS
Raja Ampat Biodiversity Nature Resort
Surrounded by pristine reefs and unspoiled flora and fauna, Raja Ampat Biodiversity Nature Resort brings you closer to the natural world at its best.
This boutique resort is situated on a pristine white sandy beach on Gam Island in the heart of the Dampier Straight, an archipelago in West Papua. This vast area of the equatorial Pacific Ocean is known as the Coral Triangle, home to the world’s greatest coral reef biodiversity, and some of the richest variety of marine species known to man.
Raja Ampat Biodiversity Nature Resort thoughtfully integrates authentic elements of traditional local culture, paying great attention not to disturb the natural ecosystems. A superb house reef is just a few steps from your cottage and the perfect place to start exploring the pristine reefs of Raja Ampat. Guests can fully immerse themselves in the dense jungle behind the resort, or interact with native wildlife like the Spotted Cuscus, an array of colourful butterflies, and countless vibrantly-coloured Birds of Paradise, from the comfort of your own terrace.
As divers and nature lovers, the owners have created a resort with the simplicity of nature as a theme, in the middle of paradise. Your holiday will contribute to the local economy in many useful ways, while helping to support responsible tourism. A lifetime of exceptional memories await at Raja Ampat Biodiversity Nature Resort.
Hotel Services/Facilities: Raja Ampat Biodiversity Nature Resort is nestled between thick jungle and the ocean, catering for a maximum of just 18 guests in nine sustainably-built, Papuan-style rooms with modern comforts. The resort is situated on Pantai Yenanas beach, at the entrance to Kabui Bay, which is studded with spectacular white sandy beaches. On the east coast, enormous, towering cliffs, offer jaw-dropping topography and an alluring carpet of rainforest. Deep inside the heart of Dampier Strait, you are just a few minutes boat ride away from diving the most famous sites of Raja Ampat.
Facilities include a vibrant house reef, brimming with life, hammocks for guests to snooze in, a wellness spa with various body treatments, a restaurant on the beach with stunning views, a beach-front bar and a reception area with a delightful shop to snap up local Papuan crafts.
A variety of day excursions take you on island adventures, in addition to diving, snorkelling, or kayaking. Or why not experience local village life and seek close encounters with some awesome endemic wildlife.
Food, Beverage & Entertainment Facilities: The main restaurant sits right on the beach, with a high sloped wooden roof and open sides to offer stunning ocean views while you dine. The restaurant is a meeting point for guests, with 24hr coffee/tea facilities, unlimited drinking water and a lounge area with large dining tables and lots of space. Forget your sandals and feel the sand between your toes, in a relaxing place for eating delightful food and having delightful conversations!
A wonderful variety of Indonesian and Western food is available, with all guests meeting at set mealtimes to enjoy delicious food and drinks in the restaurant area together, family-style.
All meals are homemade with 100% love. The resort sources all ingredients locally. Specialist diets can be catered for. Please advise us of your dietary requirements at the time of booking.
The beach bar is located in front of the resort jetty and is the perfect spot to unwind with a refreshing sundowner as the sun sets over the calm sea. There is no TV room or entertainment programme, so guests gather here most afternoons and evenings to chat about their exciting day and will soon get to know each other and the friendly resort staff. The bar closes when the last guest decides they are ready to go to bed!
Inspired by the natural island surroundings, the spa’s focus is on traditional Indonesian wellness, using natural products to relax and refine. A selection of signature massages and treatments is available including reflexology, Swedish and traditional Balinese Massage.
Transfers: Raja Ampat Biodiversity Nature Resort will collect guests from Sorong airport and transfer them to the public ferry (daily) or to the resort’s private boat (additional cost). The fast ferry takes 1.5 hours and is a more comfortable, cheaper and eco-friendly option than private speedboat transfers. Once you have arrived in Waisai, the resort team will be waiting for you to take a short, 20-minute boat ride to the resort.
Each cottage room blends evocative traditional Papuan architecture with modern comforts. The cottages have been built by craftsmen from neighbouring villages, using only local, sustainable materials, and positioned to cause the least disturbance to their natural surroundings.
All cottages are located on the beachfront and have a large panoramic glass window with stunning sea-views, en-suite open-air bathrooms, comfortable furniture and a large private terrace with sun and day beds, perfect for lounging on to take in the stunning views.
With a total of nine guest cottages, (two Standard, two Superior and five Deluxe), Raja Ampat Biodiversity Nature Resort truly offers a 5-star, personalised guest experience, with a relaxed, family-style atmosphere.
All rooms offer beach and bath towels, eco-friendly soap and shampoo, water dispenser, pedestal fan, multiple plug sockets (two-pin plugs, 220V), mosquito net, ocean view balcony with hammock, private sunbeds and gazebo, and solar-generated 24hr electricity.
Standard Rooms: Charming, comfortable cottage divided into two adjoining Standard Rooms with a shared terrace and direct access to the main garden and beach. Each room is designed to offer you basic accommodation, with all essential comforts at the best price. The shared bathroom is just a few steps away from your room, equipped with a western toilet and cold-water shower.
Deluxe Beach Cottage: These five spacious cottages comfortably host up to four people and are decorated with a blend of Papuan arts and crafts with a touch of modern colour. Enjoy an authentic, hot water shower in the semi open-air bathrooms next to nature. Deluxe cottages are in a prime spot at the centre point of the resort. They also have sofas and a safety deposit box in the room.
Superior Beach Cottage: Located at the far edge of the resort on the beachfront, these two cottages offer guests a more secluded setting for their stay and can comfortably accommodate up to three people. Decorated with a blend of Papuan arts and crafts, with semi-open air, en-suite bathrooms with freshwater (hot water from Oct 24) showers.
Raja Ampat Beach Cottage: There are two Raja Ampat Cottages located on the beach, next to the restaurant that can accommodate up three people. These cottages are separate, but can be inter-connected, so they are a convenient option for families or friends. Both cottages have en-suite, open-air bathrooms equipped with cold water showers (smaller than in superior and deluxe cottages). The panoramic glass doors let everyone enjoy the stunning sea views and the sunrise every morning for those who like to wake up early!
The dive centre is located onsite in the main building and was the first SSI dive centre in Raja Ampat. The professional diving facility operates according to the highest SSI safety standards, offering a personalised service and a maximum diver to guide ratio of 4 guests to 1 dive guide.
The well-stocked equipment room, wet-room and rinsing area are all neatly adjacent to the dive centre, and the staff carry guest’s equipment to any of the five, well-equipped dive boats.
Raja Ampat Biodiversity Nature Resort is a few minutes’ boat ride away from the most famous dive sites in Raja Ampat including Cape Kri & Chicken Reef (20 mins), Sardine Reef (15 mins), Blue Magic (10 mins), and Mioskun & Friwen (5 mins).
The dive centre can cater for all levels of diver. A variety of dive courses are available to book and dive guides will ensure guests are taken to dive sites within their own comfort levels.
After diving, once guests have hung up and stored their dive gear, they can relax in the seating area with comfortable sofas, to review the marine life they have encountered while diving and snorkelling that day.
With hundreds of species of fish and corals, excellent sea conditions all year round, and expert diving professionals with a vast knowledge of the area, guests will experience unique diving and snorkelling encounters. The shallow waters and rich marine life make this area particularly good for snorkelling. Even the resort’s house reef, right in front of the cottages, will astound with the diversity of life and colour. A holiday spent at Raja Ampat Biodiversity Nature Resort will be an unforgettable experience that will stay with you forever!
