Raja Ampat dive resorts
Papua Explorers Dive Resort
Relax and unwind in attractive water bungalows in this lovely resort in the heart of some of the best diving in Raja Ampat.
Opened in 2012 and bringing together over 25 years of dive industry experience from all over the world, Papua Explorers is located in the south of Gam island, just along the coast from the famous Dampier Strait and in the heart of some of the best diving in Raja Ampat.
The eco-resort’s water-bungalows combine traditional Papuan construction and natural materials with modern comforts. The whole resort is designed to be in perfect harmony with the exotic surroundings where you can feel the breeze from the rainforests, enjoy the songs of the tropical birds, and completely unwind.
Hotel services / Facilities: Papua Explorers is the perfect place for diving and relaxing, then diving some more. Any non-diving days, if there is such a thing, can be spent in the restaurant lounge, swinging in the hammock on your spacious veranda, or taking a day trip out for a unique ‘Raja Adventure.’
You can also indulge yourself and choose a treatment at the spa! Not forgetting bird-watching around the resort or a slightly further afield for more enthusiastic bird-watchers.
There is a computer for guests’ use with complimentary Wi-Fi.
Papua Explorers Resort take their sustainability and responsibility to the environment very seriously and established the Papua Explorers Foundation Raja Ampat SEA Centre as a conservation initiative. It is an NGO dedicated to conserving Raja Ampat’s marine life through Science, Education & Awareness (SEA).
Food, Beverage and Entertainment Facilities: The unique, round over-water restaurant and lounge is the heart of the resort and is located on the main jetty. Offering various international and local dishes, including vegetarian and vegan options. It is non-smoking and a ‘no shoe zone’. At least once a week, there is a BBQ night.
The comfy seating area invites you to hang out any time during the day, and enjoy tea, coffee and the cookie jar!
Transfers: Domestic flights are arranged from Jakarta to Sorong, and then the resort will arrange a boat transfer from Sorong over to the resort.
All the accommodation is built over the water. The bungalows are equipped with ensuite toilet and shower, hot water, ceiling fan, mosquito net, working desk, as well as a comfortable seating area. Enjoy your own private space on the large veranda with direct access to the sea.
Sunloungers and a hammock invite you to linger, whilst steps directly into the ocean make it easy to take a dip.
In all rooms are tea and coffee making facilities, drinking water and a safety deposit box. Electricity is 220v with European type 2-pin plugs. Provided free of charge are towels, environmentally friendly natural shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and soap.
12 Deluxe Water Bungalows – 72sqm – can be set up for single, twin or triple occupancy.
2 Superior Water Bungalows – 55sqm – can be set up for single or twin occupancy.
In addition, there is a large family villa, which is suitable for a family or a small group of friends.
Papua Explorers offer up to four dives each day. Boats return to the resort after each dive. The majority of dive sites are within 30 minutes of the resort. There is FREE nitrox for pre-booked dive packages, as well as a trip to The Passage and Manta point.
The PADI 5 Star Dive Centre is located directly at the end of the main jetty right above the water of a beautiful house reef.
The dive centre is spacious and features an equipment storage room, a dedicated camera room, an office with rental gear, and a large outside deck. Smaller decks on a lower level make getting into and out of the water a breeze.
The dive team is a combination of Indonesian dive guides and multinational instructors who also offer a range of PADI courses. The diving fleet comprises 7 well-equipped daily diving boats (with a capacity of 6 divers per boat) and 2 diving-and-transfer boats.
Raja Ampat lies in the heart of the Coral Triangle, which holds the title of the most marine biodiverse place on Earth, and it is home to abundant marine life.
A mixture of hard and soft corals ensure the reefs are bursting with life and colour. From swarms of small fish such as damsels, fusiliers and anthias, to large schools of tuna, trevally and mackerel, batfish, surgeon and barracuda. Not forgetting napoleon wrasse and giant sweetlips. There are many species of reef shark in the area and manta rays are also seen. West Papua diving is an incredible underwater adventure that will delight all divers.
Many world-renowned dive sites are included in the dive plan including Manta Point, Mike’s Point, Cape Kri, Sardine Reef, Mioskon, Blue Magic, Odtima, Chicken Reef, The Passage, and Hidden Bay.
