Diving in South Halmahera (North Maluku) with Sali Bay Resort, is truly a diver’s paradise. As the first dive resort built in the area, Sali Bay holds the cards when it comes to knowing the best dive sites to visit, and they are still discovering more! Their house reef is huge – 600 metres long – where you will find pristine coral reefs and critters galore. Many more superb dive sites are a very short boat ride away and most of the time, yours will be the only boat there!
The huge biodiversity in the area offers a wonderful mix of coral slopes and muck diving that will ensure unforgettable moments underwater. In front of the resort, you have great chances of seeing, dolphins, whales, tuna, schools of mackerel, batfish, unicornfish, and reef sharks to name but a few. Macro enthusiasts can find a variety of pygmy seahorses, pipefish, endemic species of shrimp and crab, rare nudibranchs, plus so much more!
Sali Bay Resort sits inside one of world’s most marine biodiverse areas, offering pristine, unspoilt underwater beauty, suitable for all levels of diving experience.
The dive centre takes groups out with a maximum of 6 divers. The resort owns two speed boats and three larger dive boats. These comfortable dive boats offer ample space and are equipped with camera buckets.
Sali Bay is one of the best places on earth for snorkelling. The House Reef offers many hours of snorkelling opportunities. You can see reef sharks turtles, big schools of mackerel, batfish, unicornfish and fusilier fish. Those with great eyesight will spot countless critters, including shrimps, crabs, rare nudibranchs, flatworms, gobies and much more!
Snorkelling at night is a must at Sali Bay, with a great chance of seeing the Walking Shark Halmahera, discovered in 2013. Snorkellers and a snorkelling guide can also join the boat with divers, subject to space.
The dive centre is located near the jetty. Your diving equipment will be rinsed and dried by the dive centre staff after dives. The following morning, you will find it again ready for you on the dive boat.
Dive equipment is available to rent but pre-booking is recommended. 12L aluminium tanks are provided as standard, all with DIN/INT valve. Nitrox fills are available at an extra charge.
Dive courses are available to book all the way up to Divemaster qualification. Please ask for further details if you are interested.
