EGYPT DIVE RESORT, HAMATA
Hamata
Hamata Dive Resort is a wonderful diving holiday location that will suit all levels of divers, from beginners to the more experienced.
The quiet diving resort of Hamata is the most southerly of the dive resorts in the Egyptian Red Sea, with the mighty Fury Shoals Reef System on its doorstep, home to over 35 unforgettable dive sites.
Situated 180 km South of Marsa Alam, the sheer remoteness of this area, makes it a hidden gem for that ‘get away from it all’ diving experience with stunning wall dives, immaculate house reefs and a great chance of seeing a variety of shark species.
Until recently, the pristine dive sites of the Deep South were visited exclusively by liveaboard boats and still remain relatively unspoiled today. There are very few resorts this far south, so Diverse Travel has picked two of the best for you: Wadi Lahmy Azur Resort and Lahami Bay Beach Resort, where divers can enjoy relaxed, un-crowded house reef or day boat diving.
Dive Centre
Orca Dive Club at Wadi Lahmy Azur Resort and Barakuda Dive Centre at Lahami Bay Beach Resort are both expertly run dive centres, with professional and attentive staff, who will ensure every diver has the safest and most memorable dives during their stay.
House Reef Dives, RIB dives and Hard (day) boat dives are available at both resorts.
Hard (day) boat – full day trips on large, comfortable boats, with lunch served on board. This trip is the one to choose if you want to access a wide diving area and enjoy a relaxing cruise and sunbathing.
RIB diving – get to the dive and back, fast. A good option if you want to mix diving with family time.
Unlimited house reef diving – like taking your time rather than be guided? Taking underwater photos? Choose this option, but remember to take your buddy too!
PADI and SSI Dive courses are available, with the added comfort of being able to do training dives directly off the resort’s beach or jetty.
Après Dive
The small town of Hamata is completely void of madding crowds and any tourist activity, meaning apres dive outside of your resort is non-existent. After a day of wow factor diving and a tasty evening meal in your hotel, there is nothing better than relaxing in the comfort of your resort with a local beer or cocktail, while watching the sunset!
Flights & Transfers
There is a weekly direct flight from Gatwick airport to Marsa Alam airport with TUI. Flight time from the UK is approx. 5 ½ hours, followed by a road transfer from Marsa Alam airport to your hotel of approximately 2 hours.
Alternatively, Hurghada airport does offer more UK airport options and ticket prices to Hurghada are mostly cheaper than flying directly into Marsa Alam. However, you will have a much longer road transfer from Hurghada airport to your hotel in Hamata (approx. 6 hours) and more expensive transfer costs.
Airlines offering flights from the UK to Hurghada are TUI and easyJet, flying from many regional airports, including Birmingham and Manchester.
Orca Dive Club at Wadi Lahmy Azur Resort and Barakuda Dive Centre at Lahami Bay Beach Resort are each blessed with stunning house reefs to dive on site and easy day boat access to more than 35 pristine dive sites at Fury Shoals Reef System.
