The Revillagigedo Islands
Our trip starts in Cabo San Lucas where you board our chosen liveaboard – the brand new Quino Del Mar– and head 250 miles sailing southwest towards our incredible dive destination. Four islands – San Benedicto, Roca Partida, Socorro, and remote Clarion – form the Revillagigedo Archipelago, famed for its unique ecosystem which is protected as one of the most significant and celebrated worldwide.
Owing much to their relative isolation, the Revillagigedo Islands, of which Socorro is probably the most famous, are world-renowned for the quality of their open ocean pelagic encounters and spectacular underwater topography which includes stunning deep walls.
The main season is relatively short and from November through to the end of May, a trip to Socorro is one of the hottest dive tickets around, with charters and liveaboard vessels often booked years in advance.
The Revillagigedo Islands offer true bucket list diving with world-beating marine life encounters on a par with the Galapagos Islands. At least seven species of sharks frequent these waters, often in large numbers, and Humpback Whales visit during the winter months of mid-February through to mid-April.
Above all, Giant Pacific Manta Rays (Mobula Birostris) are the reason so many divers want to visit the Revillagigedo Islands. Exceptional Manta sightings are possible throughout the Archipelago but most famously, these gentle giants congregate at the island of San Benedicto. Half a dozen or more Mantas are usually seen at the magical dive site known as “The Boiler”, a submerged sea mount and cleaning station. The Mantas are friendly and enjoy the presence of humans, which allows for epic, and much photographed, encounters.

Diverse Travel Expert Opinion
"The Revillagigedo Islands should be a bucket list destination for every diver. Make it a once in a lifetime trip... the only trouble is, dive it once and you will want to do it all again! Divers often say: 'I want to see big stuff!' Well, at Socorro, that's nearly all you will see! There's the potential for ten shark species - on my second trip, I encountered no less than seven - plus the ubiquitous Giant Manta Rays. Even the lobsters are the largest you will ever see!
A typical day's diving will usually include hundreds of sharks, plenty of Mantas checking you out, playful Dolphins , and if you're lucky at the right time of year, an encounter with a visiting Humpback Whale. When I am asked where my favourite destination is, I will always say Socorro, often to the reply of 'Where?' Maybe a surprise to many but for me, this destination is ahead of both Cocos and Galapagos. There are just not enough superlatives to do this destination justice. Once in a lifetime? No way!!"
