Swimming with Sperm Whales in Dominica
A once in a lifetime opportunity to experience one of the world’s top marine life encounters
The unspoilt ‘Nature Island’ of Dominica holds many treasures but none is more spectacular than the chance to encounter resident Sperm Whales in the crystal clear warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. It is estimated that around 200 of these ocean giants – predominantly females and their calves – traverse the deep coastal waters here. Indeed, such is the prevalence of these whales off the coast of Dominica that this stunningly beautiful Eastern Caribbean island has become known as the leading destination worldwide to encounter Sperm Whales.
Join an exclusive group trip to swim and snorkel with Sperm Whales in Dominica.
Strictly limited places available!
Exclusive Small Group Trip
This is a rare and very special opportunity. Limited permits are given each year for swimming with Sperm Whales. The number of guests is kept deliberately small and only four swimmers/snorkellers are allowed in the water at any time. This means a unique chance to swim and snorkel with these magnificent creatures, as well as observe their fascinating natural behaviour up close.
Maximum Opportunity, Minimum Impact
Although Sperm Whales can be seen all year round off the coast of Dominica, the dates are specially chosen to maximise sightings and time spent in the water with these gentle giants. Don’t forget to bring your camera – this is an amazing experience you will want to record and remember forever!
Whale watching and whale encounter trips are subject to strict codes of conduct. Dominica is home to one of the most comprehensive Sperm Whale research and conservation projects worldwide. Learn more about these amazing mammals as you benefit from the expert knowledge of your private guide.
Did you know...?
Sperm Whales are the largest of the tooth whales and males can reach up to 20m in length. They have the biggest brains and heads on Earth. Listed as vulnerable, Sperm Whales can live for 70 years or more and dive up to 2km in depth in search of food.
Dominica
One of the best-kept secrets in the Caribbean
Small but perfectly-formed, the island of Dominica is a spectacular host for visitors. Divers will enjoy exploring pristine reefs, volcanic thermal springs and an enviable range of marine life big and small.
As well as Sperm Whale encounters, other whales and dolphins are often sighted making for memorable boat trips in the turquoise Caribbean Sea.
Dominica’s natural beauty is similarly breath taking above water. The island is a haven for eco-tourism and packed with scenic hiking trails, rainforests, waterfalls and exotic wildlife.
The base for your trip is the historic Fort Young Hotel in the vibrant capital of Roseau. This intimate, waterside city offers superb markets, a wide range of restaurants and bars, and plenty of scenic vistas to enjoy on an evening stroll.
